Septic Tank Size

Septic Tanks are usually about 4.5 feet wide x 8.0 feet long x 6 feet tall. Tanks are typically buried 4 inches to 4 feet deep depending on local site conditions, shape, slope, and other factors.

The tank's primary purpose is to retain the solids while releasing sewage effluent to the drainfield. Having an undersized tank can cause serious problems in the future and even failure.

When deciding which tank size is right for you it is advised that you consider more than simply number of bedrooms or sq ft.

The primary concerns are flow rates and system type.
